Incorporating TENCEL® in the right fabric construction, appropriate pre-treatment and optimised finishing will lift TENCEL® and TENCEL® blends to levels that will exceed other cellulosic fabrics in easy care properties. The nanofibril structure facilitates the memory effect of TENCEL® such that the correct combination of common textile processes gives easy-to-iron performance without undermining the comfort-in-wear experience.

The nanofibril structure can be manipulated in different ways to maximise the advantage of using TENCEL®. It is known that TENCEL® fabrics respond extremely well to resination processes and that positive effects can be achieved with lower resin levels compared to other man-made cellulosic fibers. Resination is used to produce skin sensitive comfortable fabric surfaces. It is also known that alkali pre-swelling processes can impart improvements to fabric creasing behavior resulting in the structural memory of a flat fabric surface.
Nano-structure results in significant wet swelling behaviour. This basic property is responsible for many unique aspects of fabrics made from TENCEL®.
TENCEL® - REFLEX
Natural stretch and natural regain. The technologies used to develop Reflex fabrics can be exploited to give novel effects. One such effect is the development of mechanical stretch and recovery properties in woven structures. Using only the properties of nanofibril structure in a completely natural way, the fabric structure is engineered to produce up to 20% stretch with commercially acceptable recovery. No elastane is required. TENCEL® fabrics finished with natural stretch have superior easy-to-iron, shape retention and comfort properties.
Mechanical Stretch
TENCEL® Reflex is a form of mechanical stretch. The fabric is made stretchy during the manufacturing process rather than the addition of elastic yarns. The weft yarn crimp controls the amount of stretch - more crimp equals more stretch. Again the moisture characteristics of TENCEL® are key, and the unique swelling power of the fiber is crucial in maximising the increase in yarn crimp. More importantly for performance, the recovery from stretch is imparted through nanofibril rebonding which gives the memory following wet processing.
